Product Spotlight: Belushi’s Farm

The Blues Brothers are back in town! Belushi’s Farm has finally hit the Illinois market and the team here at Karma Club is thrilled to be a part of this brand’s launch. We’ve had the wonderful privilege of getting to hang out with actor and founder, Jim Belushi, as well as try out his product line ourselves.

Originating in Oregon at Belushi’s actual farm along the peaceful Rogue River, the Belushi’s Farm brand has made its way to Illinois through Shelby County Community Services – a non-profit cultivator that puts out consistently great products and services Shelby County residents in need. Belushi’s Farm products evoke a feeling of tranquility and calm, largely in part due to Jim’s appreciation for cannabis’ medicinal properties, as well as his focus on how cannabis heals and brings us together. Yes, we all love getting high, but this plant impacts our day-to-day on a grander scale that we don’t often reflect upon: how we heal, how we view the world, how we communicate, how we love, how we breathe, how we think. What cannabis we choose to consume and how we choose to consume it is something so unique and special to the individual, and from what I’ve read about Belushi’s Farm and Jim’s mission, I believe we’re on the same page.

I personally had the opportunity to try two products from Belushi’s Farm: An 8th of Mule Fuel flower and a pack of Wedding Cake pre-rolls. I took some time to admire the flower because to me, that’s an act just as special as consuming. As our operator, Josh, puts it, “the most exciting thing about smoking pot is opening your next brand-new bag of pot!”

The first thing that struck me was how COVERED in trichomes the flower was. From the tip of the cola all the way down the stem, every square inch was occupied. It had vibrant orange hairs and bits of purple leaves scattered throughout the frost. Mule Fuel is a cross between GMO and Mendo Montage. Its dominant terpenes are beta-myrcene, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, and limonene. This batch tested at an impressive 32% THC with 0.7% CBG. Talk about some medicinal bud! The smell I got right off the bat was savory and garlicy followed by slight sweetness. It tasted mildly sweet and gassy on the exhale. The high went straight to my head at first, then followed up with a heavy body buzz. Classic stoniness at its finest. I had a rush of euphoria and giggles that followed up with reflection and contentment. It reminded me of being around a campfire with loved ones as we took in nature before we zipped up our tents for a good night’s sleep.

Next, I tried the Wedding Cake pre-rolls. These also had a high THC content of 32% as well as an even higher CBG content of just over 1%. They really hit the spot when my fiancé and I took an evening stroll in the park. Not much smell came from the box, yet they tasted like classic Wedding Cake with a mild sweetness on the exhale. By the end of the walk, my muscles were relaxed, and my back pain was completely gone. Just what I needed to sleep through the night!

Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Belushi’s Farm’s first round of products. I look forward to seeing what else they put out, and I know Karma Club is looking forward to serving our community with more potent cannabis like this down the line!

What do you think about the relationship between cannabis and the potential for medicinal effects? Have you tried any Belushi’s Farm products? Like any Jim Belushi films? Let us know in the comments below.
